RAP Web Bio 2015

Dr. Roger A. Parker is a founder and Chief Technology Officer of AirMarkets Corporation.

Dr. Parker has been exploring the behavior of air travelers for almost two decades. He is focused on the traveler’s perspective, not from the viewpoint of the air travel provider. Roger developed AirMarketsTM analytic tools to explicitly recognize and incorporate the behavioral characteristics of individual travelers, such as their values for money, time, and comfort, in projections of future travel demand worldwide or in markets as small as a single city pair. It is the realization of his passion for accurate analytics applied to complex market problems that drives his enthusiasm for AirMarkets and its products.

Roger’s work draws on over four decades of experience in all aspects of marketing and policy research, including mathematical modeling, statistical research, research methods development, software development and implementation, stochastic simulation, teaching, and research management. His experience in applying advanced techniques to marketing research, combined with his expertise in agent-based modeling, provided the foundation for the AirMarkets agent-based computer simulation of air transportation demand worldwide.

Earlier in his career, Roger was Chief Marketing Scientist at Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA), where he managed a worldwide team organized to develop mathematical models of passenger demand and itinerary choices. He led the company’s formulation of advanced methods of network analysis, including implementation of large-scale computing systems for use in strategic air transport analysis. He also chaired the Market Research Review Team, a company-wide group with responsibility for reviewing and evaluating market research plans within BCA.

After leaving Boeing in 2008 to pursue a broader range of interests, Roger earned a Ph.D. in Marketing Science from the University of Technology, Sydney, Australia. Roger also has a B.A. degree in mathematical statistics from the University of Washington and post-graduate work in statistics, biostatistics, and public policy analysis.
